Cucumber - Boston Pickling
I got these seeds from various trades. This high yielding heirloom dates back to the 1880's. From several reviews I read it looks like you can expect to get 7-10 pounds (or pints) per plant in an average season. You can grow this variety on a trellis or sprawling on the ground. It is resistant to scab and tolerant of Cucumber mosaic virus, but may be prone to downy mildew and susceptible to cucumber beetles. This variety is multipurpose, despite the name. It can be sliced for a salad, eaten fresh, or pickled (and don't forget fried pickles too). This variety is known for staying crisp and avoiding bitterness so long as it gets regular watering. It is not drought tolerant, it must be watered regularly. Pick the cucumbers when they are 3-7 inches long. Expect vigorous growth, give it space, and pick the ripe cucumbers regularly.
