Cucumber - Dragon's Egg
I got these seeds in a trade. Dragon's Egg cucumbers originated in Croatia. They're a fun and prolific variety the produces creamy white egg-shaped fruits that should be picked somewhere in the goose egg or tennis ball size or smaller. It's a good option for container gardening, small spaces, and raised beds. It can be trained to climb, or left to grow down over the edge of a raised bed. Most of the reviews I could find highly suggested this as a fresh eating cucumber, straight out of the garden, or sliced in a salad. There does seem to be a split on if they're any good as pickles. Some say they're good for quick refrigerator pickles, but not for hot bath canning, while others say they shouldn't be pickled at all. This variety is often compared to Lemon cucumber, and all of the reviews I could find researching this variety claim it is better than Lemon. Some people complained about seed size, while others said it remained relatively small of seed right until the end of the season or if left to grow larger than a tennis ball. Most people described it as mild, thin skinned, and lacking the bitterness and acidity of some other varieties, while a handful of reviews did mention being bitter, especially at the end of the season. I've read reviews claiming this variety is good in heat, and reviews claiming it does well in cooler temperatures too. It sounds well rounded. Due to the cool name and the small size it tends to be a hit with children. The skin is supposed to be smooth, though some reviews report having a bumpier skin and some report white spines while others say this variety is spineless.
