Eggplant - Listada di Gandia
I got these seeds from High Mowing Seeds. Listada di Gandia is a Spanish heirloom eggplant that is white with purple stripes, making them quite lovely as an ornamental or for a farmer's market stand. There does seem to be two distinct lines of this variety, though nobody seems to mention the difference. Some commercial sources offer seeds that should produce 14 inch tall plants that produce 2-5 inch long eggplants, while most other commercial sources offer seeds that should produce 3-4 foot tall plants that produces 5-7 inch long eggplants. I'm not sure why there's such a difference in the descriptions given by commercial sources, especially when I can't seem to find any discussion on different strains of this variety.
Listada di Gandia has unusually thin skin for an eggplant, which means it doesn't need to be peeled. It stays sweet even when it's been on the plant a little too long. The eggplants are firm with a mild favor, and do not need to be brined or sweated as they are sweet. This variety is heat tolerant.
75-90 days to maturity
