Eggplant - Rosa Bianca
I got these seeds from Burpee. Rosa Bianca is an Italian heirloom eggplant. Grown on sturdy 3-foot tall plants, no support is needed as they produce lavender and white striped 5-8 inch long round to oval slightly ribbed eggplants. They have thin skin and don't require peeling. There's no bitterness in this variety and they're just the right size to slice and grill or fry. They tend to hold their shape even when grilled while also having a creamy flavor. When you pick these, be sure to use or store them quickly because they can go soft pretty quickly. These plants typically produce 2-4 or up to 8 eggplants per plant. Expect a lower yield in areas with cooler nights.
The main complaint I saw in reviews were germination issues. Treat these seeds as you would pepper seeds. Start them 4-6 weeks in advance of your last frost date, indoors, with a heat mat and a humidity dome. Be patient. Rosa Bianca is container friendly!
