Pepper - Black Hungarian
I got these seeds from Baker Creek and Bunny Hop Seeds. With a Scoville rating of 100-2,500, this pepper has some variance, even between peppers on the same plant. They ripen from black to red, so the namesake black color is actually an immature pepper. I've found a few reviews stating the Black Hungarian pepper does take on a sweeter flavor if you pick it once it's ripened fully to red. These peppers are similar to a jalapeno in shape and size, but have a different flavor. Averaging 2-4 inches long, this Capsicum Annuum is said to be a good option for salsas and pickling. The plants get about three feet tall and feature purple flowers, which make them an interesting "ornamental" attraction for your garden.
