Pepper - Buena Mulata
I got these seeds in a trade. This Capsicum annuum variety is a dual purpose pepper. It can be grown as an ornamental due to the color changing peppers, and you can actually use the peppers for cooking, pickling, sauce, or dried as a powder. A note here, they do dry down to an unappetizing brown color, but the flavor is good; fruity and spicy at the same time. They may lose some color during the pickling process. Peppers start out purple and ripen through a creamy pink to orange to brown before reaching the mature red color. Once red, the peppers should be picked promptly as they don't last long. These 2-3 foot tall plants do require full sun as they don't produce as well in partial shade. The stems can be thin and fragile, so some spindly plants may need support. The pretty purple flowers and the colorful fruit make them great for decorative planting. They can be grown in containers, but to better in larger containers. These plants are compact and prolific producing loads of 4-7 inch long thin peppers. Most reviews say these peppers are about on par with a cayenne for heat, and I did find one source that put them at 10,000 - 30,000 Scoville heat units.
