Pepper - Lumbre
I got these seeds from Bunny Hop Seeds. Developed by Jimmy Lytle and son Faron Lytle (son and grandson of Big Jim Lytle, namesake of the Big Jim pepper) of Hatch chile fame, released in 2011. The Lumbre, which means "fire" in Spanish, is the hottest of the Hatch / NuMex peppers. Only peppers actually grown in the Hatch region of New Mexico can carry the Hatch name, so these are simply Lumbre (not Hatch Lumbre) seeds. Plants are 24 to 30 inches tall, peppers are 4 to 8 inches long and ripen from green to red. These peppers average 9,000 - 10,000 Scoville units, but have been known to spike up to 35,000 given proper conditions. Use sparingly, this one is advertised as producing a burning sensation that can last over an hour! Wear gloves when processing Lumbre peppers.
