Cucumber - Double Yield
I got these seeds from a trade. Double Yield was originally introduced in 1924 by Joseph Harris Company of Coldwater, New York. The original tagline was "For every pickle that is cut off, two or three more are produced." According to reviews it appears to live up to this hype unless it's exposed to dry spells or gets downy mildew (which it can be prone to getting). This variety produces prolific amounts of 4-6 inch long uniform cucumbers that are multipurpose. Use them for pickling, canning, or fresh eating. Looking at photos they do tend to look quite different. One set of photos and descriptions show them much brighter and lighter colored and state they are lime green, while other descriptions and photos show dark green cucumbers. Is it possible there are two different strains out there? USDA PI 414157.
