Pepper - Filius Blue
I got these seeds from Baker Creek. Filius Blue (Capsicum annuum) is considered an ornamental pepper, but don't let that scare you off from giving it a try. compact bushy plants average 12-18 inches and won't get more than 24 inches tall. They produce a profusion of tiny (1/2 - 3/4 inch) peppers that start out a deep purple to blue color and ripen to orange and eventually to red. A curious charicteristic of the Filius Blue is that the peppers actually start out hotter than they end up; completely backwards of other pepper varieties. If you want a milder sweeter pepper, wait for it to ripen to red. These little gems are in the 30,000 - 58,000 Scoville range. The stems and leaves are green, but the leaves tend to have a blueish tinge to them. They produce white or blue flowers (in one case I found a review that claimed both color blossoms on one plant). One plant can have upwards of 100 peppers on it at a time, in all stages of maturity, and still putting out flowers. Because it's especially tiny and often grown in containers, many people choose to bring them indoors and overwinter them in a sunny window. The plants will happily keep producing flowers and fruit so long as it gets enough sun and pollination. Filius Blue comes from Mexico.
