Pepper - REZHA MACEDOnian
I got these seeds from Baker Creek. The Rezha Macedonian (translated as "engraved") is also called Vezeni Piperki (translated to "embroidered"). As their name hints, these peppers develop whitish horizontal lines as they mature, similar to the netting on a cantaloupe. Traditionally seeds are only saved from the most marked of the peppers. Plants grow 2-3 feet tall and produce at least 4-5 firm peppers per plant with peppers measuring 8-10 inches long. It does seem to produce better in warmer and longer season growing areas from various reviews I've found. The heat from these peppers can vary widely, and I was not able to get a Scoville range. Some reviewers say they're too hot, and some pepper-heads who love the hottest of the hot say it's not hot enough. There are variations even among peppers off the same plant, so be aware some might be just right and some may be too hot, or (depending on your taste and preference) too mild. Rezha Macedonian can be grown in containers or in the ground. It is eaten fresh, cooked, or grilled, but it seems that the most popular is drying for use as a flaked pepper. These peppers may need support as the pepper production can weigh the plant down, especially in warmer or longer season growing areas. A note, some people enjoy eating these fresh, and some people don't care for the texture of the skin due to the embroidery.
